Great for feedback! YES! Chunking is always a great idea! I love to poll the students! Sounds great to have "it all" under one umbrella.
Forward thinking about assignments! I have learned that "easy" solution just this past year. I have focused the work and homework for those necessary skills and not just "20 math problems per night"
After listening to your podcast, I signed up a fake Teacher and fake Student account on Schoology to check it out. I was looking to see if the Schoology iPad app could solve our workflow problem. Short answer: not yet; iPad app can't see the "Files/Links" section of a course yet. But the company knows about this need and seems responsive to roll the feature out... http://community.schoology.com/schoology/topics/mobile_apps-1of5q
I agree with your sentiments about Moodle. It's not pretty, but it performs its core functions well, just not very elegantly. I think Moodle has been slow to respond to UI and aesthetic issues because of the way its developer community is structured.
Thanks for motivating me to check out Schoology. If they can get that one feature rolled out in the next few weeks with their iOS app, I'll probably move swiftly on rolling it out to our MS teachers and students.
I agree, it's a good idea to create a student account for yourself so that you "see" what students see when they log into Schoology. Since I'm not familiar with Schoology, I created an account for myself - in order to compare it to Edmodo. For me, it's all about having an online Gradebook that parents can check out. I liked the idea of time releasing assignments - it prevents students from working ahead and possibly turning in higher quality work.
